The world does not run by armchair propositions. But then that is all one can do in some cases. France has made it illegal to deny 1915 Armenian genocide. The accused party is Turkey - the rightful successors of the Ottoman Empire. The timing of the French legislation is not a secret to any body. Turkey has been asserting itself in the international arena and this is something that is not palatable to the west in general, including the US who had taken similar step some time back, and France in particular. Even then to face the reality squarely might not be such a bad idea for Turkey. The people responsible for the acts of that event are not around and anything historical will come back to haunt again and again if ignored. In the environment when the Roman Catholic Church is apologizing for centuries old mistakes it might not be a bad idea to look at the reality in face and accept the past mistakes. Of course easier said than done and these are not very trivial matters to exercise one's judgement but facing the reality is always in one's own interest. And Allah(SWT) knows better. And to Him we return again and again after our mistakes.
