"You are boring me to death by this talk about Elders and Elders."
Sounds familiar?
Now look at Surah Hood, Verse 120:
And we also conclude that in the stories of the Elders Truth comes to us.
It will also be fair to conclude that in these stories exhortation comes to us. We keep looking for motivation here and there and we show disdain at the stories of Elders.
And if we do not get connected to these stories of the Elders then let us be warned by the concluding part of above Verse. If we find these stories uninspiring then it only points to the fact that we have some weakness in our faith.

Now look at Surah Hood, Verse 120:
All that we relate to thee of the stories of the apostles - with it We make firm thy heart: in them there cometh to thee the Truth, as well as an exhortation and a message of remembrance to those who believe. This firmness of heart does not end with the Prophets(AS). Even in the Holy Qur'an it is not restricted to Prophets (AS). There is, for example, the story of Hazrat Luqman who is not regarded by many people as a Prophet but his story is full of admonition. So much so that he is nearly synonymous with wisdom. It will be very naive to assume that firmness of heart is granted by the stories of Prophets (AS) only.
And we also conclude that in the stories of the Elders Truth comes to us.
