One hideous thing that they teach in first economics class is that as the time passes we reach higher and higher levels of satisfaction. For example earlier only kings has the best cars now everybody can have them-they say.
As if people of 2nd century were less satisfied as compared to people of 21st century. In all probability the situation is other way round. (And why people have such a pride about their ancestors if they were a deprived lot?)
There are many damaging consequences of that simple economic dictum. One of them is applicable in the entertainment industry. (But first things first-movies are not approved by scholars as an allowed more of entertainment.) We have heard earlier about the concept of jumping the shark. We'll not repeat that here. To keep the audience in the movie halls the film makers try higher and higher doses of the basic elements. Suspense, music, violence, tragedy, shock and adventure. Nearly all of them are suspect in the eyes of divine doctrine-if any one cares. To give people thrill there are the stunts-progressively more dangerous. So much so that deaths occur in filming these things. No body complains about them. It is taken as if there is no moral problem with a film that has reached you after some person's death. If a flight is hijacked then the airlines have an unwritten rule that the corresponding flight number is not used again. Very subtle action but it appeals to heart.
