Aziz Burney Under House Arrest

Group Editor of Sahara's Urdu publications Aziz Burney, an Alig, was under virtual house arrest for three days. Reason is that he wanted to visit the riot affected areas of Rudrpur in Uttarakhand. The menace of communal riots has raised its ugly head. After Rudrpur there have been two others reports of this scrooge-all through Urdu Rashtriya Sahara. Before that Gopalgarh in Bharatpur district of Rajasthan was in news because of horrifying police brutality. Aziz Burney, together with Navaid Hamid Sahab and Shabnam Hashmi, had managed to visit Gopalgarh and did what a journalist can do best-to report the news as it is. The consequences were for all to see with their own eyes. Whereas earlier police used to get away with whatever they wanted this time the whole police station was suspended, district magistrate and SSP removed, FIR's corrected and compensation for the martyred people was announced and the Chief Minister had to take an open stand against the administrative machinery. And when we got the news of Rurpur case Aziz Burney wanted to tour that place also but the powers that are in place were quick to act. So no Rudrpur visit for him, no going out of Delhi, no going out of house.
